St. Aldhelm's Church, Lytchett Heath, Dorset
Described by Newman and Pevsner as "idiosyncratic," St Aldhelm was designed by Crickmay & Son for Lord Eustace Cecil in 1898. The lower parts of the walls are rock faced, the upper parts of ashlar. The pyramid-topped bell-tower is extremely odd, with bells protruding from openings on all four sides. There is stained glass by Kempe and by Jude Tarrant (2001, on the life of St Aldhelm), but the church was not open when I visited (July 2014). The building is listed, Grade II*.
