Inside Melbury church can be found the wooden battlefield cross that once marked the grave of 2nd Lieutenant L. H. Carver, 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, who died on the 26th May 1918. He is buried in Ayette British Cemetery, 14 km south of Arras in France.
