Minterne Magna (St. Andrew)

Minterne Magna Church

St. Andrew's Church, Minterne Magna

A combination of medieval (nave, chancel and font), early seventeenth century (north chapel) and 1800 (tower). The north chapel contains many monuments, mainly for members of the Napier and Churchill families, including a large monument to Sir Nathaniel Napier, by Robert Taylor, 1725. Another large monument (in the nave) commemorates General Charles Churchill (1714), the brother of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. Churchill fought at both Blenheim and Ramillies and was at various times Lieutenant of the Tower of London and Governor of Guernsey.
