Bournemouth (St. Augustin)

St. Augustin's Church, Wimborne Road, Bournemouth

Church founded and endowed by Canon Henry Twells, Honary Canon of Peterborough. Built 1891-2; designed by William Butterfield (it was his final church). Pevsner and Lloyd note, "Rockfaced walling. Geometrical tracery. Polygonal bell-turret partly on a W buttress, square and so bug that it appears like the bottom parts of an unusually thin tower. The bell-turret then corbels out and is square, but near the top octagonal."
